Application Process

SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Complete your application and mail to Natchitoches Parish Police Department at 400 Amulet St, Natchitoches, LA 71457.

PASS THE TEST

Take and successfully pass the Louisiana Civil Service Exam. Information and resources can be found. Civil Service test scores are valid for 18 months post test and must be valid on day of hire.

PHYSICAL TESTING

Successfully complete the Physical Requirement Test which includes 1.5 mile run, push-ups, and sit ups. Candidate may attend scheduled PRT dates or individual appointments can be made.

& CVSA QUESTIONNAIRE

The pre-employment process includes a comprehensive background check.

PANEL & CHIEF OF POLICE INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED

Candidate interviews with a selected panel of officers and if the peer interview is successfully completed is scheduled for an interview with the Chief of Police.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION & PSYCHOLOGICAL SCREENING

Candidates must meet and maintain general medical standards and demonstrate good health, in order to successfully perform the duties of a police officer, as determined by a qualified physician. Psychological screening is designed to evaluate whether candidates can handle the stress that accompanies a career in law enforcement.

*Notice to Military services members and college students: Because the process of becoming a Police Officer is time consuming, we recommend that you should begin the application and testing phase two (2) months prior to your departure from military service or college.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. At least 18 years old to apply for Police Officer (or 21 years of age by first day of Academy)
  2. At least 18 years old to apply for Communications Officer
  3. At least 18 years old to apply for Police Records Clerk
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen
  5. Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  6. Take and successfully pass the Louisiana Civil Service Exam. Civil Service test scores are valid for 18 months post test and must be valid on day of hire.
  7. Must possess one of the following: high school diploma, high school equivalency certificate, high school transcript, affidavit from the issuing high school, associate’s or bachelor’s degree, or college transcript, any of which must indicate graduation has occurred or a degree was awarded. A certificate of completion shall not be sufficient to substitute for a diploma or equivalency certificate.

Master Disqualifications

  1. Have been convicted of, plead guilty to, or nolo contendre to any felony
  2. Have been convicted of, plead guilty to, or nolo contendre to a misdemeanor resulting from a felony case
  3. Have been convicted of, plead guilty to, or nolo contendre to and/or show a history of domestic violence. This includes a conviction of a lesser charge, which at the time of occurrence was a domestic violence crime.
  4. Sold, cultivated, or produced marijuana within the past five years
  5. Sold, cultivated, produced, used, or transported any other illegal narcotic to include the transportation of marijuana, within the past 5 years
  6. Have been dishonorably discharged from any military branch
  7. Have been convicted of any civil rights violations
  8. Have been terminated or resigned from any law enforcement agency for any criminal conduct unless the charges or allegations were exonerated or cleared
  9. Have been convicted, plead guilty to, or nolo contendre to a DWI or related charges in the last two years. A diversion or similar action is the same as a guilty plea
